About Me

My name is Brent Stolle, and I’ve lived in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota, USA for almost my entire life. I graduated in 2003 from Augsburg College in Minneapolis with degrees in Computer Science and MIS.

Programming
Most of you who are visiting here are here because of the various open source/free projects I work on. My first big project was in 2004, which was CCED, a custom game editor for Battlefield Vietnam. Since then, I’ve taken up working on projects for content management systems like Joomla and Wordpress.

September, 2005 saw the birth of BSQ Sitestats, my custom statistics module for Joomla, based on Shaun Inman’s popular ShortStat utility. Techniques learned in the development of BSQ Sitestats led to the collaborative development of JoomlaLib, which was born in February of 2006.

All of my open source programming is done outside of (and secondary to) my day job: developing real-time database applications that handle hundreds of thousands of transactions a second. If you’re ever wondering why an open source release is taking so long or is delayed, it’s because my creativity is currently being consumed 100% by my career. Sorry…only so many hours of thinking possible per day.

Music
I’m mostly on the observing side of music these days, although it wasn’t always that way. I have about 10 good years of trumpet playing under my belt, the last four of which were very intense, practicing ~1.5 hours a day and playing over 100 gigs. That’s pretty much why I’m on a break right now. I burnt out pretty bad.

I still listen to music…a lot. I love Beethoven, Handel, Pink Floyd, Big Band Jazz, and any 80s hair rock..especially anything with face melting solos and monster ballads. If you catch me coding at work or at home, I will most likely be listing to one of the previously listed genres/artists.

Relaxation
I’m a very physical person when I’m not programming. My current biggest hobby is mountain biking, which I just started in 2006. According to my expert-rider friends, I’ve already outgrown my bike. Other sports that keep me busy: soccer, softball, touch football, and swimming.
I’d be silly not to mention my biggest source of relaxation: my dear wife, Bethany. We’ve been married since June, 2005, and both being busy business types, we keep each other sane. She keeps her own blog too, but it’s mostly about scrap booking. Consider yourself warned ;)

Paid for by supporters of Christopher Walken ‘08 and the Chuck Norris foundation for the arts and roundhouse kicks.

Also brought to you by the consonant cluster TH and the number pi.

[…] Tonight I should have worked on my altered rolodex cards for a swap that I’m in, but I didn’t. Maybe later. Or not. We’ll see. I have been so exhausted lately from work stuff, that I just don’t have much creative energy by the time I get home. So instead, I veg out on the lovesac in front of the TV and hang out with Brent. Last night, I helped him write his bio for his blog. Pretty awesome, if I do say so myself. ) Check it out… […]

Hi Brent, I’m learning Joomla admin for Earthsite.net and love the ease of BSQ Stats. Thanks for making it!

Any interest in folding in functionality that would look up and display the domain name referrers rather than IP addresses, ala http://ws.arin.net/cgi-bin/whois.pl ?

Thanks again for your contributions to open source and the good of all of us!

    Peace,
    Liza

    Hey,

Good to see another Minnesotan around on the joomla community :)

I am trying out your Stats system on my site right now and it looks like it should be awesome. Thanks for all your work on it!

  4. Brent Says:

Thanks for stopping by, Gray. It’s good to see other Minnesotans in open source land.

    Are you in the cities?

Consonant cluster Th and the number pi? Yes, you must be the Stolle I am looking for.

Do I have to do this out here, in public?

It was my birthday over the weekend, did a little reminiscing with Matt… thought of you, looked for you, found this, and thought I would let you know…

BRENT! It’s me, Kelsey! Former #2 herself.

Congrats on your marriage! (see how long it’s been?) Show lovely Bethany some old pictures.

From your pic albums, looks as if beer and wedded life has filled out that pokey ass.

Looks as if life has rewarded you richly, and you deserve it. A nice boy, you were.

    Best!

    Kels
