Where did you go?

Sunday, November 5th, 2006

Loyal readers,

Rumors of my demise are greatly exaggerated. I’m pleased to announce that we have not been around because we are in the process of buying a house and moving back to the city. Buying a house is a long process… most of which was completed in the last 6 weeks. If all goes well, we will be in our place by the middle of December. That’s all I’ll say about it for now, since the process is not completed. However, I might just share details over email ;)

In between working long hours and buying our house, I’ve been working a lot on Trac plugins and import tools. Michiel is graciously planning on hosting Trac and SVN for our projects on his servers in Amsterdam. The days of painfully using Joomla forge may soon be coming to a close.
A Joomla 1.5 JoomlaLib and BSQ Sitestats will definitely be done. It’s just a matter of when.

That is the *exact* reason I am here - was hoping you were okay. It sounds like *more* than okay! You and Bethany will have a home in time for Christmas 2006! Fantastic!

Sounds reasonable on the “when.” Beta testing continues and there are many things being fixed, of course. Andrew Eddie is moderating the v 1.5 testing forum, now. He shares great knowledge as he fields questions.

Oh, and, don’t know if you heard but patTemplate is out! Apparently, they made a Joomla! specific template thing with “JDoc” statements.

Good to hear that you guys found a home and that you found a techno-home in Amsterdam. Can’t wait to hear more about your new home!

I wish good luck to the Joomla team on the beta release. I read Hackwar’s Louis’s (Sorry louis!) comment about this release being necessary for Joomla’s survival. It seems that the team realizes the seriousness of the situation, and I’m looking forward to seeing what they will put in 2.0 to compete with other CMSs that are also coming of age.

I haven’t read aboout them replacing patTemplate yet, unless that was the issue with the poor performance of file_exists(). I believe that calls the unix call stat(), which is cached, but that doesn’t help when you are enumerating for unique filenames ;). It’s too bad PHP isn’t stateful like mod_python is….you can actually create structures in memory and stateful handles to resources. Pretty cool stuff if you ask me.

Trac and Subversion server is up….

After some pain stacking moments and some adjusting of our goals we got the trac/svn server working. We are not finished yet as we need a good access model and move all the documentation from the wiki into trac wiki pages.
The access model is going to …

Where did you read that comment from Louis? You know, I met him in San Francisco and he is the very nicest guy - plus, he’s incredibly smart and has quite a vision. He has a TON of respect for Johan. Louis is one of those rare people who tries to get along and do the right thing. I adore him. I think they are very upbeat about their future but I am also hopeful that they have a bit of understanding of how competitive this is going to be, as well.

I don’t understand your second paragraph. I see a wink, but I don’t know why! Maybe that was for Michiel. lol…But, pat’s gone, baby.

If you can find it, share the link on Louis’s comment. Thanks.

My apologies to Loius Landry. It was Hackwar. I’ll be more careful before quote somebody next time.

Awe, no worries. All those Joomla! devs looks alike! lol Hannes rocks, too! It just doesn’t surprise me and has a bit different impact, to hear Hannes say this instead of Louis. And, right in the middle of one of the J! religious wars. Bah! Some people, Brent, some people! Thanks for sharing.
