Coffee as Fast Food

Saturday, October 14th, 2006

After another crazy, stressful week at work, I decided to treat myself to a nice Mocha from Caribou Coffee. Coffee is my new vice, now that I’ve quit drinking pop (ok…soda, Amy). Now, you’d think that people would go to get coffee because they are tired and barely awake. Oh no…they are quite awake and very impatient. Somehow, uppers are going to solve everything and not give them more energy to just be more aggressive and impatient. You could just smell the passive aggressive Minnesota Nice in the room.

The people inside aren’t even the best part. Inside, there was a line of 3 impatient people desperately craving their fix. BUT …. Outside, there was a line of 10 cars for the drive through. That’s right….10 towering Ford F-150s/Expeditions in a row with people who thought it was too much of a burdon to step down from their mobile fortress to interact with the lowly shopkeepers. Funny enough, I was in and out before 4th car in drive through, whose driver was leaning left and right to see when the car in front of her would move, had actually placed her order. How did that cunning plan work out for ya?

The Saturday morning coffee crowd is a lot better. It’s a lot more like what I was used to in Europe where you actually go and sit and talk for an hour while you sip. As far as I’m concerned, the comfy chairs might as well be removed during the week to make room for pacing people, desperately waiting for their fix.

LOL! How did I miss this — where have I been? NICE rant, dude. Well written. I love the use of bold for a single word - sip. Perfect!

I have to tell you, I am *relieved* you have a vice. I was starting to worry that, perhaps, you and your wife were some of *those new young, perfect people* who are so far above the rest of us.

Please - get addicted to something unhealthy and join the rest of the American people. You bike. You are well read and intelligent. That’s plenty.

“Quite awake and very impatient” … “passive agressive Minnesota Nice” - SWWEEET!

You aren’t the first person to be relieved to find out that we are indeed human :). We met with someone related to our housing search last night, and she referred to us as Mr and Mrs. Boy Scout and Girl Scout. LOL.

The best thing about having an external appearance as innocent is that you can get away with anything.

    Brent

    Ha,

Amy, get Brent on your msn/aim list and make sure you are online when he is working.
He isn’t a boy scout or it might be that I’m boy as well and he filters his output ;)

    ROFL Michiel.

  5. Amy Stephen Says:

LOL! So good to know Michiel! Perhaps you could start collecting some of this for us to enjoy!!!! Mr and Mrs Boy Scout and Girl Scout. How funny! How come misunderstandings of me always go the other way? Hmmm… :) No more filtering — that’s no fun! Drink more coffee!

  6. Amy Stephen Says:

    Housing search? Are we nesting?

  7. Brent Says:

Yeah we’re nesting. It’s time to get a more permanent home in the city. We sure miss living there after living there for >6 years.

  8. Mike Whitla (ddp) Says:

Yeah those car people will do anthing to avoid gettin out of their cars!! Sad really.

Gotta go on my bike now.

  9. Michiel Bijland Says:

    Okay Ami,

cool dude. I’m home alone all weekend, so I’ll probably have time to do stuff if I’m not drinking with my college buds
I mean….being a boy scout and helping old ladies with groceries ;)

  10. Brent Says:

Oh noes. I’ve been ousted by a Dutch spy. Those are the worst kind!

  11. Amy Stephen Says:

Well, at least you motivated the musician from Canada to get on his bike! That’s cool! I’m going to go walk. It’s beautiful out!

Yes, Michiel, please help the old ladies. That is very sweet! ;-)

Post pics of your house hunting, Brent! HEY! Maybe you could have a contest where you purchase the house WE choose for you! Think about it! Wow. That’s a great idea. BRILLIANT, IN FACT!

  12. Brent Says:

I actually have a minor in “Canadian motivation”. It’s a common degree at schools in the Twin Cities.

For the record, there was no drinking involved this weekend. We walked around the MOA (Mall of America) for 3 hours, people watching, and then played 4 hours of video games. Woot.

  13. Adam Says:

Only 4 hours of gaming and no drinking, Brent, I am thoroughly disappointed in you.

In all fairness, guitar hero is fun for about an hour. Although, two play guitar hero is fun for about 1.5 hours. Halo is fun too, but Rondeau is fodder. I hope he reads this too. ;)
