Watch out for Drupal 5.0

Friday, September 1st, 2006

Was reading my Digg this afternoon and came across the fact that Drupal 5.0 is already code frozen. Wow. Seems like only a few months ago they released 4.7.0 stable. What’s most interesting for the average user is that they added an easy installer. For many users, this was the barrier to entry, and a great reason to use Joomla instead. We all know that Joomla’s installer is easy enough for the average password changer to use.

I’m hoping that Joomla 1.5 goes beta soon for both the end users’ and Joomla’s sake. The big feature additions are slated for 2.0, which can’t begin until 1.5 is out. Keep a close eye on the CMS market shares…the gloves have been thrown down. Congrats, Drupal team.

I want to check out Drupal, next. We’ll see if I can make the time. It has been a year for Joomla!, now. And, man, what a feat to break loose and relocate on the Internet, set up shop, and attract all of those new users. I hope as much as I can HOPE that v 1.5 starts seeing the inside of servers shortly after January. It *has* to happen. Andrew Eddie is committing a ton of code every time I check the SVN, so, that is reassuring, too.

Bren - I loved that –> the “average password changer” — that is best description of how easy “easy” has to be that I have seen yet.
