Two more features for BSQ Sitestats 2.2.x
Tuesday, August 22nd, 2006As you read in the last post about BSQ Sitestats, 2.2.x is well on its way to completion. In fact, I’m down to the last couple bugs before I do an alpha release. woot. Here are two of the several new features that will be included in 2.2.x.
Page Titles
If you look at the forums and the tracker for BSQ Sitestats, this has been a much-requested feature since the beginning. I was always hesitant because I thought Joomla 1.1/1.5 was around the corner. Now that it’s not even on the horizon, I’ve decided to enhance the interaction with Joomla 1.0.x a little more by using page titles for the recent visitors, recent user visits, recent referers, and referer frequencies reports. This is an optional feature that will be off by default because it will take 2 extra database queries per hit, and performance out of the box is key for BSQ Sitestats.
The quality of the page titles is just like the quality of Joomla URLs. Whatever Joomla tells me the page title is is what will appear. For components like JoomlaBoard that don’t set page titles, this will prove to be very boring. However, Joomla core components set their titles nicely, so you can look forward to content having proper titles.
The coolest thing that BSQ Sitestats’ page titles can do is actually collect page titles from external tools like Wordpress, Gallery2, and other external tools that you track hits from already. Details as to how to accomplish this small miracle will be posted on the wiki.
Stat Resetting
Many have also requested that one should be able to reset their BSQ Sitestats. That’s cool. Bigger guns for bigger feet. Just make sure you know what you are doing before you click “I understand” and obliterate hundreds of thousands of hits, sending them to the bit abyss.
I don’t have a timetable on BSQ Sitestats 2.2.x yet. Working alone means I don’t have to meet/provide deadlines ![]()
