E. T. Phone Home?
Friday, January 20th, 2006Development on version 1.8.0 of BSQ Sitestats has been quiet but intense. With one minor bug (not bad with hundreds of users), I’ve been plugging away at the next release. I got about 50 hours of code written in the last two weeks. The two major features that are finished so far are as follows:
Phone Home
This feature is just flippin sweet. Take a look at the module on the left side of Michiel’s site . Those are stats that are gathered from all of the users of his component. This will be in version 1.8.0 of BSQ Sitestats and will show Sites, Total Hits, and Total Unique Visitors from all of your sites. Pretty cool, eh? It will also make it easier for me to support the component by showing me which versions of hosting software people are running, such as Mysql’s version, your component version, Joomla version, OS, etc. This feature will be opt-in (of course).
Persistent Preferences
Tired of updating your preferences each time you upgrade BSQ Sitestats? This has changed now. Your preferences will be saved to the database now, so you don’t have to worry about changing them back to what they used to be. This development took close to 35 hours because I made the preference manager general enough to be used in anybody’s component/module/mambot. If you’re a 3rd-party Joomla developer, I strongly suggest that you keep an eye on the bsq_conf project on Joomla Forge in the near future.
The rest of the features on the roadmap are coming soon. Patience

Bravo, Brent! I recently had to upgrade and it was truly painless. I only had to uninstall the old component and install the new one. Piece of cake, no BS. Very nice.
Thanks!
