Vacation at Last

Saturday, December 24th, 2005

You never really know how burnt-out you are until you have some quiet time to sit down and reflect. My last semi-vacation from everything was the first week of September when Bethany and I went up to Winnipeg for a week. Before that, it was our wedding in June.

School was a different time. I’d get burnt out twice a year. They were called semesters by the school, but I called them the biannual burn-out Cool. The good thing about school was that I would have at least two weeks of vacation in between semesters. Even better, during the summer, I’d have 12 weeks of time to either work or travel abroad.

Working is a different animal. You have the opportunity to work on one thing at a time, but you also have the curse of working on one thing at a time, sometimes leading to boredom in addition to being burnt-out.

Negativity of the past aside, this vacation has been great so far. Bethany and I took yesterday to move our apartment around. Since we’re going to be here for another year, it feels like moving to reorganize the space you live in. We actually swapped our bedroom and office, which makes a lot of sense as far as usable area. The end result is that Bethany and I both have offices, which are 12′x7′, connected, and still offer privacy. Achieving privacy is as easy as bisecting your shared office with a bookshelf, or in our case, an IKEA storage tower. Bethany’s really excited, as her scrap booking workspace looks better than a lot of the ones in magazines she subscribes to.

More to come later. I’m going to work on BSQ Sitestats a little bit before church.
