WYSIWYG Pro any good?

Sunday, November 13th, 2005

In my neverending quest for a good WYSIWYG editor for Joomla, I stumbed upon recommendations for WYSIWYG pro. Why is it that decent software always costs $$$? Why can’t open source tools like FCKEditor and MosCE rock like commercial products do. *sigh*.

For US $47, WYSIWYG Pro looks like a great tool. The one caveat is that their latest version still only supports Mambo officially. They have hacks posted on their forum for Joomla, but nobody likes having to do that dance. Anyway, I’ll probably buy it when it comes out. Let me know if I shouldn’t or if there is some magical WYSIWYG editor that will rock my face off.

I have a liscensed version of wysiwyg.pro which I’m using on a relatively new Joomla! site and it functions quite nicely. It doesn’t have the image capabilities nor the mouseover/focus of the latest Mos or FCK but nice nonetheless. The support is quick *(when I needed it) and, it validates -most- of the time. For a seamless Joomla! experience I’d reccomend it, but, expect to tweak things a bit. If you use/bought any of Phil Taylors products *(directory) you’ll need a sixer of Guiness and an evening of -finesse- to make things happy/fuzzy, otw.. It rocks.

This is the best wysiwyg add on I’ve used, it does not distort the code. We have been able to do incredible layouts using it.
