Staying alive for my birthday

Tuesday, May 24th, 2005

Guess who’s 24 years old??? Not that I should be celebrating, but it was a good weekend all in all. It was tons of fun to hang out with Peter and friends at Valleyfair for the day. The bad part was that my car crapped out on me at the end when I was driving home. Oh well. Got it fixed today for $250. Sad.

19 days to the wedding. My how time flies when you’ve met the right girl!

Almost killed myself rollerblading yesterday. I thought I’d enjoy the new city. Part of the freedom suburban people enjoy is the freedom from sidewalks and paths Burnsville enjoys many of the typical freedoms of the suburbs. Burnsville is also on the bluffs of the Minnesota River, so it is VERY hilly . I started out on brick, which was kind of cool, but bumpy. Then I climed a 15% grade hill on Nicollet avenue to the highest point in the area on a 4-foot-wide path.

Those of you who have rollerbladed with me know that my stroke is about 6 feet wide. That meant lots of small, wasteful strokes up the hill. Once I finally reached the top of the hill, the other side was tar path. YES!!! Except…it was a 10% grade, and I was going 25 MPH down it before I could apply my brakes. The funny thing about going that fast is that you can’t brake because your other foot can’t stay stable enough to go straight. Argh! The climax of my worries was reached when I had to cross a street, meaning two curbs at 25 MPH. I survived. After all, I’m blogging! :).

The fun didn’t end there, I crossed 35W and headed up the hill to County 5. After turning onto county 5, I was once again blessed with a hill. This one was over a mile long and about a 10% grade. My poor brake  . I could have just let go, but I don’t have the force on my side, and there were plenty of people making right turns at the cross streets to get in the way. The best part was that they would just stare at me like I was somehow in their way, even though I was the one crossing between paths THROUGH their car.

Tonight was fun. I had my second soccer game. I kind of realized that I’ve been holding back. I totally forgot how good of a sprinter I am. Must have forgotten it sometime between gasping for breaths . The teams were the same as last week, and we tied again. This time, I played goalie for the 2nd half and blocked 3-4 shots. EAT THAT.

The field is only 70 yards, and there is NO off-sides. Here comes the a$$hole who is obviously the team captain. We’ll call him captain America (CA). CA, of course, is a big shot but refuses to run up and down the field. He’s sitting 20 yards outside my net, waiting for someone to send him a 30-yard pass over his head. So, I, being the 6-3, 210 guy I am, stuff the bastard twice on breakaways. He was so mad. What made him even madder was that I said “good game” to him after the game and patted him on the back. Life’s too short to be an a$$hole

Well, enough chatting for now. I’m gonna see if I can setup an RSS feed on this thing. Night y’all. Dey took er jebs!
