Apply to be my President

Monday, November 1st, 2004

Well, I’m very glad that there was no October surprise. The really sad thing about the Osama video is that it was really moderate. Kerry was very smart to give almost the exact same response to the video. That way, Bush won’t get any ground by “protecting us from the axis of evil”.

It’s kind of relieving that Kerry is so far ahead in the electoral polls, but at the same time, it’s gonna be a slow four years. Why? Because both the house and senate will be republican. Expect four years of bills getting blocked by both sides and both sides slinging mud at each other.

I had a good conversation with my friend Anna from Germany, and she was telling me how much our election was all over the media today. It’s scary how much the world is paying attention to who our new leader is. I’m not saying good or bad. I mean, everyone knows who I’m against, but I find it scary that we are electing the leader of the free world.

If you want my vote in 2 years for governor or 4 years for president, here are the things I want to hear about:
- Some form of healthcare that isn’t tied to your job.
- Some answer to the exponentially rising healthcare costs.
- A viable alternative to oil. I’d like to see some sort of corn-based solution that didn’t depend on petrol.
- Mass transit: long commutes are killing people with heart attacks, and these people use our roads without paying taxes on them. The light rail is proven to work. Let’s connect St. Cloud, Rochester, and Mankato for starters. :pimp:
- Increases in scholarships like the McNair that allow first-time college goers to pursue undergraduate and graduate degrees. I’m not talking about “no child left behind”. I’m talking about a well-thought-out investment in education that will pay off 30 years from now, when I want to retire (That’s right…at 53 :koolaid: :koolaid:).

Things I don’t want to hear about:
- Abortion (either side. Government, stay the hell out). :pissedoff:
- Marriage…..really, gay marriage. Marriage is a religious institution. There should be some sort of different government term for two people joined together, like “civil union”. There is no reason why homosexual couples shouldn’t be able to transfer benefits or visit as a spouse in the hospital. In ben’s words: unacceptable. Don’t give me that crap about protecting the sanctity of marriage. Fix the 55% divorce rate before you talk about that.
- Casinos and profiting from them. I don’t gamble, and I don’t smoke (unless I’m partying :joker:).

That’s my rant for now. I’m glad to hear that Bethany is back safely from Italy. Take care everybody and make sure to vote tomorrow for whoever represents you the best.

Peace,
Brent
